Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates Review

Crystal Chronicles amazed me with its stellar graphics when I just started the game up, and I was surprised what the little DS could do in terms of rendering. The game world itself is beautiful, with every area having its own different and well thought-out design, creating a superb look and feel to the game itself. The playable characters themselves change in appearance as you equip armor of different colors, styles, what have you; I enjoyed having an army of four samurai at one point and then later to change them all into knights!

Game mechanics blend together well, with the AI controlling other characters while you are in charge of one of your units. Each race has a different forte, and the game is made well for interactions between these characters to defeat a mutual enemy. It can get sloppy at times trying to control everyone and getting them to move where you want, but overall I get the typical Final Fantasy feel when everything's said and done. Overall, this is definitely a game you can play again given just how much content there is, and after you've defeated the final boss you can restart from the beginning but with all your equipment and higher difficulty level.

Overall, the game is great, and I'd only ding it for some lax character controls. I would probably rate it a 4 because it is not as ingenious with the touchscreen as some DS games I've played are, but I believe some reviewers do this game a disservice by giving it any less than 3 stars.Get more detail about Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates.
