This is the DS game my 3 year old daughter plays to most. It is composed of very simple mini-games that require no reading to play. They do however require color comprehension and the ability to follow simple directions (such as "blow" or "tap"). Very simple game though, so any kid above preschool age is probably going to be able to finish it fast and probably be bored of it. For beginning DS player though, who want to play games like their big siblings this one is perfect! Cheap Nintendo DS Lite Protective Filter

I read the reviews before buying this product. I originally wanted to get something to filter out some of the light since I noticed that my eyes get blurry after playing for an hour or so. The filters don't really help out too much with my eyes getting tired but works great to prevent scratches. Putting on the filters are not difficult at all as long as you follow the instructions. Two filters come in the package and one is specifically for the top and the other is for the touch screen. The one for the top fit almost perfectly in size. The filter on the bottom doesn't go all the way to the edges, maybe half a centimeter on all sides. This bothers me since some of my games require me to go to the edges and also if you are dragging the stylus over the edges you can feel it catching. It's annoying but not that big of a problem. Other reviewers complained about air bubbles. I had 2 when I put them on but was able to work them out with the stylus and once the DS is on you can hardly tell they are there. My 3 year old was able to play it with minimal help, and LOVED getting to open the presents you collect in the game. For any kid over the age of 5 though, this game is going to be WAY too easy. My 3 year old was able to beat it in a couple afternoons with my help, so an older kid could probably start and finish it out in less than an hour. It has mini- games that can be replayed even after you beat it, but they too are fairly simple and would bore an older kid. After almost 2 years, I'm trying to relearn Japanese on my own (as you can see by this review's title). Thinking it would make a great supplemental tool, I snatched up My Japanese Coach without looking up the reviews in advance. Trust me when I say this will never happen again. Going through the first 29 lessons of this learning game, you get a clear picture of what to expect from the remaining 71.

With the help of a kimono-clad virtual host, you learn various Japanese words and phrases through sound, speech and writing while testing your knowledge in a growing number of minigames. Mastering words in the minigames unlock the next lesson, a real detriment for those with advanced knowledge of the language. Another problem with MJC is that it starts off teaching random words and doesn't even cover 'kana,' or Japanese characters, and writing them until Lesson 6, as though assuming the player has some grasp of Japanese. Speaking of writing, a little experimentation confirms that MJC has issues with the stroke order of kana. And MJC's point system makes it so you can grind with the minigames and unlock each lesson while you hardly learn anything. If that's not enough to dissuade you, the main game's so dependent on the romanization of the language that the player becomes dependent on it too.

I can honestly say from personal experience that one can learn more from the most boring, underfunded college language course than from MJC. Of course, no video game can truly supplement real-world learning. With a built-in dictionary and phrasebook included in the game, I still recommend it if only to build up your vocabulary.

Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands Decide Now

When I first heard that a new Harvest Moon game was coming to the DS, I was determined to buy it. After buying this game, I have not regret for one moment buying it.

This is definetly the most advanced HM game on the market, with specific "water points" and "sun points" for not only crops, but grains and trees too! There are even more animals involved this time too with cat, pig, badgers, sparrows, rabbits, ducks, mice and monkeys to name some of them.

The tool upgrade is a bit of a pain since you need to use "wonderfuls" which are very rare, and can only be won in festivals, and after many (game) years of work, made by yourself.

The romantic prospects are a plenty in this game, both for female and male players.

For those who liked the mining system in previous HM games will love this one with lots of challenging floors (255 floors to be exact) to explore.

A huge tips for players, both experienced and newbies: BUY THE STRATEGY GUIDE. I will pretty much say it is a "must have" to manage to play this game, and have fun with it (sadly, but true)

This game is without doubt a 5 out of 5 in my book, and a must buy for HM lovers and time managment / simulation fans!

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Immediately

I have to say Atlus has been doing a fantastic job moving to the ds and Shin Megami Tensei's Devil Survivor is an excellent edition. It is also the first Shin Megami tensei game to hit the ds and it is fantastic.
The storyline is superb and the fact that you, as the player, are the main character definitely brings you deeper into the world. The gameplay is similar to many of the other board style games where you move your characters a certain number of spaces and then choose your opponent. From there it turns into a usual RPG setting.
The designs of the demons in the game are great and the creation of demons in the Cathedral of Shadows is a nice touch much like in the Persona games also made by Shin Megami Tensei. Even level grinding isn't such a drag like is usual in other games but it can still get old (typical of any rpg you play pretty much).
The game has a deep storyline so there is a lot of dialogue but you will soon find yourself immersed in the story and excited to find out what you'll have to do next. It was difficult to put the game down.
However, this isn't a game for everyone because the game is pretty difficult and casual gamers may not find it as enjoyable as others. You will be frustrated at times and will have to level grind a bit or go back to the Cathedral of Shadows so you can create a demon with the stats you need to beat the next mission. Also, the choices you make effect what happens next. Your choices can either kill someone, give you a new ally, or make the game more difficult as you go on, etc. What's nice though is that there are multiple endings so each time you play through you aren't going through the exact same path over and over again. So far I have found at least four endings which amounts to at least more than 60 hours of gameplay. Yes, i have played through four times and enjoyed every bit of it.
The cons: I really have no problems with this game to be honest. Perhaps implementing both screens better would have been better than just one screen most of the time. Also, you never use the touch screen really with the stylus. Moving characters on the board could be a pain when not able to use the stylus since it could be unpredictable which space you highlight when using the directional pad. other than that I have had no problems at all. these are just small details that get overlooked almost immediately when you start getting into the game.
I highly recommend this game to anyone who owns a ds and is looking for an enjoyable and challenging rpg experience. This is a great edition for any Shin Megami Tensei fan or anyone new to the series.Get more detail about Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor.

I immensely enjoyed making each characters skilled in several jobs and switch the combination of the jobs among the party. I spent more than 150 hours and did not get tired of the game at all.

Collecting onion items was fun. Finding out how to effectively fight against dragons and other tough monsters was fun, too. There were so many things that I could do in the game. Whatever, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is an excellent RPG that deserves mention. Its gameplay involves a chess-stylized world where a long attention span is required, and patience comes with plenty of rewards. Control the blue ant army of Marth, the prince of Altea, and protect your people from harm. Enemy after enemy will keep watch, and do not swear that they will duck beneath the shadows in fear. These swordsmen are ruthless, and once a soldier of your army has been killed, it is a permanent change of pace. Strategy is the key here, as it is that motif that make the strong live long enough to witness the weak suffer. Beg many a pardon if this sounds intimidating, but back in this Medieval period of time, life must have been hard for these kingdom dwellers! The lesson here is simple: try your best, no matter what. Build your own army inventory from the aquirement of weaponry, magic, and rations; and do please, use as many checkpoints as you can. As far as the visuals go, objects are presented in multiple forms, with each map representing a sweet simplicity of the Medieval world. The weapons tend to be difficult to make out however, and the fortress spaces look identical to those of the armory spaces. Confusing at the first dozen glances, but your learning curve will prevail. Control with the Digital Stylus is dead on; slashing away at the screen with precision is joyful. Honestly though, utilizing more buttons would have been a good idea. Reading menu after menu can be intimidating, and purchasing lethal inventory from the armory gets tricky since you cannot view your inventory while shopping. Despite these minimal gripes, I like the idea of slaying knights and seizing armies through the method of puzzle-solving. This game for the DS is ok, not great, just ok. Be advised that when set on auto field, the fielders do some really dumb things. (Outfielders don't run to the ball, they just wait for it to reach them- letting it drop for a hit, the first baseman will run AWAY from the ball which is usually headed to RIGHT WHERE HE WAS JUST STANDING, he'll also throw the ball to the wrong base (if the ball is hit to him with a runner on second, he will ALWAYS throw the ball to third base, not run to first for the out. Some hits right down the line are foul balls, some are fair balls (It seems the computer always ends up on the plus side of that deal even when some seem more foul than others- is that even possible?) The runners, for some inexplicable reason, will try for the next base even though there is no chance to make it. (I've even had runners run BACK to the previous base on a hit!?!?!?) Very frustrating when the game is given extra outs to work with. If you don't mind this, go for it. I have not had the freezing issue (yet.) I bought this game for my pre-teen niece, who tells me that she loves playing it, it's really fun, and that I'm "the best aunt ever".
I was surprised to see so many folks purchasing this for younger kids... probably because of the Lego theme. I was pleased that even a 12 year old didn't find this "too babyish". I was looking for something wholesome, yet entertaining, and I think I really hit the mark with this one. Her mother assures me that the value for the game is tremendous, considering how many hours my niece has spent playing it.

Personally, I thought the game screen looks a little cluttered, with lego singers, scrolling lyrics at the top of the screen, video frets, some kind of progress bar across the top, a score tally, and many other flashing winking things besides. I couldn't tell where to look first. No matter! My niece seemed to grasp this just fine, quickly becoming really good at it.

My Weight Loss Coach Buy Now

After trying my weight loss coach for the DS for over two months, in conjuction to wii fit and my own personal pedometer, I can finally give my review for the weight loss coach 3 stars, but 4 stars for motivation.

I travel a lot, and basically have no chance to work out. When I come back to my assigned office to work, I find myself sitting in an office for hours, needless to say I barely walked more than 1000 steps a day. So, for someone like myself who works over 50 hours a week, I could not find time or the added motivation to include something like this in my life. When given to me my by fiancee, I tried it and found it to be FUN. At first it asked me to drink some water, then walk 500 steps, then it asked me to take a quiz so I can reflect on the reality of my activity levels. IF YOU LET IT, this can be a great motivational tool for weight loss or the achievement towards a healthier lifestyle. This game gives you challenges to complete and if you complete it, you obtain more miles on your game. I especially like how you can describe what food you consumed in the day, it's pretty cute how the food falls out of the description that you click and essentially, you put it in the stick figure's mouth. The overall game is pretty cute and as I mentioned before, can be very motivational if you want it to be.

However, there are some minor issues alongside the positives..depending on how you look at it. The pedometer is WAY off, by approx. 200 steps or so. I noticed this when I was walking up a hill on my travels to San Francisco and there are a lot of hills, so I bought a personal pedometer (Omron HJ112 Digital Pedometer) so I can see the difference. Also, when I got home to my long time friend the 'wii fit' and walked on the board I tested it many times and found that it is approx. 200 steps off. Both my Omron pedometer and wii fit matched steps, but NOT this pedometer. Maybe, possibly,?? I got a defective one :.( But I doubt it. Since this was only 15 dollars I can't complain much.

Secondly, DO NOT enter the steps you take until you are about to nap. I tried to change some things in terms of how much I ate, however you are not given an option to change your day's activities and food intake after you enter the information. It is also a little frustrating when you eat a balanced meal and the games tells you that you are not balanced. I count ALL my calories and my best friend is a nutrionalist, so I am well aware of my diet...so it's a little off as well.

Overall, I still think this is FUN! It makes me try to reach a higher goal that I usually would in terms of walking and working out. Although it is approx. 200 steps off, I see that as a challenge more so than a turn off. This got me off my butt and I always give myself a gift when I accomplished a good week of 80,000 steps....A great motivational tool if you can work with the defects of the game.

I ordered this for my sons 7th birthday. I received tracking info etc for the item and about 5 days after it was *expected* to arrive, I still hadnt received the order, I called amazon, was told it was no longer in stock and was issued a refund because it must have been lost in the mail. It has a hard, slick finish that makes it a little too easy to drop the game. I'm going to have to add some silicone or rubber tape to improve the "feel". In this DS game, you are given a house in an old town that needs your help in order to become as popular and well-known as it once was. You meet new people and learn about new games like racquetball and fishing.

This game is great at keeping the player interested by introducing new "mini-games" and setting our new scores and rewards such as medals when a certain score is reached. The higher in level you are the more of the town you can access.

Order Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time

The story is written well, although obviously meant for a slightly younger crowd than my late twenties. The art is crisp and adorable, and I love how we get to see the Pokemon in closeups--seeing their expressions helps draw you in. I also liked how you had to answer questions to see what Pokemon you would end up becoming. But I didn't really see the whole point of the "analyzing your aura" segment, and it was difficult for me to figure out what to do at that part. You can choose which Pokemon you would like to be your partner, and there are a lot of good choices. I recommend trying to find one that is a totally different type than you are, just to cover as many bases as possible. For example, if you end up as Mudkip or Pikachu, I would recommend picking Torchic or Chikorita. But you can of course make your own decisions.

As far as the fighting goes, it is NOT set up like other Pokemon games. It is still turn-based, but you don't get the iconic setup of the other games or the big menus--instead, you get text scrolling up and down over the screen, and it moves VERY fast. Basically, all I have time to do really is just hit the A button over and over, pouncing on the enemy. You can still use special attacks, but you don't really see much of the attack on the screen and the damage info whizzes by. The battles are generally pretty short. You still level up and learn new things, as does your partner Pokemon. There are a lot of little menus to sift through. And the fact that you can carry only one item bugs me, although it makes sense.

In all, I like this game, but I don't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I still prefer Pokemon Diamond over this one. But, it is still worth the money, I think.Get more detail about Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time.
